Mission Statement

The Morimura Fund is dedicated to supporting effective innovation in education, focusing on small grants to schools and organizations implementing imaginative, pre-K-12 programs and curricula aimed at cultivating curiosity, overcoming inequality and creating opportunity for underserved communities. The Morimura Fund aims to identify new approaches to primary and secondary education that could be effective across borders.

Grants

The Morimura Fund makes grants of up to $10,000 to qualified non-profit organizations, schools and other relevant institutions.

Geographic Location

The Fund does not exclude projects in any geographic area for funding, but will initially focus on projects in India. Proposals that include funding for project evaluation are preferred.

Meet our Team

Stephanie Forman Morimura

Executive Director

Stephanie Forman Morimura is the co-founder and Executive Director of The Morimura Fund. Originally from Philadelphia, USA, Stephanie has a BA in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MS in educational linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania.

As a retired U.S. diplomat, she served in India, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, Iceland and Washington, D.C. Her passion for promoting and fostering equity in global education opportunities was sparked when she served as Cultural Attache for Exchanges and Education at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, and as India Desk Senior Advisor for Public Diplomacy in the State Department, where she was involved in education policy, grant-making and bilateral education policy development. She was inspired by the astounding level of innovation and dedication demonstrated by students and educators, coupled with the scale of the challenge.

After leaving the U.S. Foreign Service, Stephanie, and her husband, Kenji, decided to create The Morimura Fund to foster innovation with small grants to educators and institutions in India and around the world.

Kenji Morimura

Chief Operating Officer

Kenji Morimura is the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of The Morimura Fund. Originally from Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, Kenji has a BA in business from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan and an MS in education from the New York University.
After a 21-year career as an international finance executive for a Japanese bank, Kenji decided to return to his original passion – education. Leaving the bank, he returned to school, earned his credentials, and became a teacher at the LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. With experience in the front lines of both finance and education, he brings a wealth of expertise to The Morimura Fund.
